The World on the Brink…
"Those who are kind to the cruel will in the end be cruel to the kind." (Kohelet Rabbah 7:16)
At this historic juncture, the future of all mankind hangs in a delicate balance. We have a choice. We can close our eyes to the unpleasant and frightening facts and continue down the crooked road of appeasement, hoping that by feeding the insatiable terrorist monster we will stave off its inevitable rampage. Or, we can open our eyes to the truth – that every concession – and every illusory attempt at ‘diplomacy’ - leads to more bloodshed and strengthens those who seek to destroy us. Although the latter course may at first seem more difficult, in following it we will avoid much unnecessary death and destruction.
Not only is this the only sane and sensible thing to do, it is also a fulfillment of G-d's
purpose and plan
, when the world will be “filled with the knowledge of G-d as water covers the ocean bed”. We can be partners in creating this world, an inhabitable, sustainable world illuminated by Divine wisdom.
The Torah guarantees that every positive prophecy will be fulfilled in the most literal way. The Jewish people will live safely and securely in their borders, and when that happens, the world will be at peace. At that time, and at that time only, as it says on the wall of the U.N, “Nation shall not lift up sword against nation, and they shall know war no more,”
(
Isaiah 2:4
).
However, the manner in which a prophecy is fulfilled, how quickly its fulfilled, and what has to happen along the way – to a very large degree this depends upon our willingness to first see the truth, and then act upon it.
And your one act can tip the scales.
The Secret to Jewish Survival – Trust in G-d and His Torah
Looking at military matters from a purely physical point of view, it would seem that the success of an army depends on sophisticated weaponry and skilled military personnel. But military experts are aware of an even more important factor in achieving success: the spiritual strength of an army’s soldiers. For the Jewish people, this spiritual strength is at the core of our survival against seemingly overwhelming military power, and can even create a situation in which the use of weapons become unnecessary from the outset. As the Torah says, “May terror and dread fall upon them.” (Shemos 15:16) When our soldiers possess this spiritual strength, then our enemies will not even dare to provoke us to fight.
The secret of our nation’s existence is that although we are the smallest of all the nations, nevertheless we are the Chosen People – the nation of the Book and of the spirit – and connected with our Jewishness. Therefore, no physical power in the world can endanger our eternal existence.
And this is the secret of the power and strength of the Israeli army. As the verse says: “Israel, trust in G-d [and it is guaranteed to them that] He is their help and their shield.” (Psalms 115:9) Although we must take all necessary steps according to the natural order of things, ultimately it is the power of our trust in G-d that brings our true strength.
